Bundeswehr KFOR BRDM-2

Manufacturer: S-Modell

Scale: 1/72

Additional parts: none

Model build: Apr - Jun 2016

The BRDM-2 is an amphibious armoured scout car designed in the Soviet Union. It was intended to replace the older BRDM-1 and has improved amphibious capabilities and better armament. It has been exported extensively and is in use in at least 38 countries.

The BRDM-2 has a crew of four and is armed with a 14.5 mm KPVT heavy machine gun and a 7.62 mm PKT general-purpose machine gun. It is powered by a GAZ-41 gasoline V8 engine and has a top speed of 80 km/h on land and 10 km/h in water.

The BRDM-2 has been modernized several times, including the BRDM-2M-96, BRDM-2M-97, and BRDM-2M-98 variants. These modernizations have improved the vehicle's ergonomics, crew protection, and armament.

When the German Bundeswehr was engaged in operation KFOR in 1999, it had a lack or armored vehicles, usable in Kosovo.
Therefore, some of the old NVA vehicles - which were not scrapped or sold - were reactivated and used in the first four years of the operation.

The model shows a old NVA BRDM-2 as it was used in 2001.

S-Model BRDM-2

The model is a S-Modell kit in 1/72 build OOB.

Actually the box contains two models, so this is what happend with the second one. Its quite good to build and has several PE parts includes. Airbrushed with Revell Aqua Color, several decals from the spare part box were sued, plus some Paddinghaus ones.
