USS Oliver Hazard Perry (FFG-7) was the lead ship of the Oliver Hazard Perry class of guided-missile frigates. Named after an American naval hero, it was the first and only ship in the U.S. Navy to bear the name. The class was originally intended for convoy escort but faced controversy due to its light armament and lack of redundancy. Despite initial criticism, they proved useful as anti-submarine ships and continued to serve into the 21st century as patrol ships.
