The German torpedo boat V105 served in both World Wars, a testament to the turbulent 20th century. Originally built for the Netherlands, V105 and her sister ships were seized by Germany at the outbreak of World War I. Built by Vulcan in Stettin, V105 was launched in August 1914 and entered service in early 1915. With a displacement of approximately 340 tons, the 62.6 metre ship carried two 88 mm guns and two torpedo tubes and reached a speed of approximately 27 knots using steam turbines.
Throughout the First World War, V105 operated with the Imperial German Navy in the North Sea and Baltic Sea, carrying out reconnaissance, torpedo attacks and supporting fleet operations. After the war, V105 was initially assigned to Brazil, but was eventually sold to Poland and renamed ORP Mazur.
In a tragic turn of fate, ORP Mazur was sunk by German aircraft on 1 September 1939, the first day of World War II, becoming one of the first naval losses of the war.
This 1/400 scale model of the V105 torpedo boat is from the Polish manufacturer Mirage.
Built from OOB and painted with Revell Aqua, it was the last model to be built without glasses....
