3D Printing Miniature Ship Models
One of the most fascinating aspects of 3D printing is creating small, highly detailed objects, like ship models at a 1/3000 scale. Some of these vessels are only 20-30 mm long but still show a surprising amount of detail.
Painting these tiny models can be a challenge, and some are enhanced with thin plastic masts that are too small to be 3D printed. The models are created on a resin printer, with the 3D files sourced from various places online. While some models are originally designed for much larger scales, they often don't print well when scaled down because the fine details become too thin. Models designed for a 1/1800 scale, however, can usually be successfully scaled down to 1/3000 and still print well.
Custom-Designed Aircraft
The tiny aircraft on the models, which are only about 5 mm in size, are custom-designed and printed. The 3D models for these planes look very blocky and simple on a screen, but when scaled down to 1/3000, they are perfect for printing.
Extending the Diorama
The collection also includes a few 1/3000 models from Fujimi, which often come in sets with naval bases or other small dioramas. The lagoon diorama you used was enhanced with custom 3D-printed palm trees and buildings to add more detail.
