HMS Undine was a U-class destroyer built for the British Royal Navy during World War II. Designed for mass production, these ships were intended for general duties like anti-submarine escort. Undine served in the Mediterranean and later joined the British Pacific Fleet where she participated in various operations, including the invasion of Normandy and the attacks on Japan.
In March 1945, Undine displayed courage by rescuing downed airmen in the Philippine Sea, demonstrating the destroyer's role beyond combat. Post-war, the Royal Navy converted Undine into a Type 15 frigate to counter the Soviet submarine threat. This involved significant modifications to enhance her anti-submarine capabilities.
Undine continued to serve in the post-war era, participating in operations such as the Suez Crisis and the Cod War. However, due to recurring mechanical issues, she was decommissioned in 1960 and eventually scrapped in 1965. Despite her relatively short lifespan, HMS Undine played a crucial role in both World War II and the early Cold War, serving as a testament to the versatility and adaptability of the Royal Navy.
A ex-Frog kit in 1/500 scale, this actual kit was a Russian re-release with a very old fashioned looking box.
However, it was quite nice to build, and some PE parts were added.
