The USS Independence was the lead ship of the Independence-class littoral combat ships. Designed for operations in shallow coastal waters, it was a high-speed vessel capable of carrying out various missions, including mine countermeasures, anti-submarine warfare, and surface warfare. Its unique trimaran design allowed for a large flight deck and mission bay. Despite its capabilities, the ship was decommissioned in 2021.
