The Unimog, a highly versatile off-road vehicle produced by Mercedes-Benz, is a staple of the German military. Affectionately known as the "Two-tonner" by soldiers, the Unimog's robust design and excellent off-road capabilities make it ideal for a variety of military tasks.
Since the late 1970s, the German Armed Forces have used tens of thousands of Unimogs in various roles, from transporting personnel and equipment to serving as command vehicles. Its durability and adaptability have made it a mainstay in all branches of the German military.
Serving my time at the Bundeswehr in the late 1980s, one of my stars was to drive such a vehicle, containing componentes of a communication masts. Often, a single axle trailer was attached to it.
The 404-865 was part of the Fernmelderegiment 6./11 which does not exit anymre today.
This 1/35 scale model of a Unimog is a replica of the vehice I drove at the Bundswehr in the late 1980s.
I tried to rebuild a model as close to the original as I could in those days, adding the correct cargo and licence plate etc.
All additional parts were scratch build, the model was hand painted with Revell Enamel colors.
