The workhorse of the German Kriegsmarine during World War II, the Type VII U-boat reigned supreme with over 650 vessels constructed between 1936 and 1944. These underwater threats primarily patrolled the North Atlantic, striking fear with their coordinated nighttime attacks on Allied convoys, a tactic known as "Rudeltaktik." Beyond launching torpedoes, they were adept at laying mines and renowned for their agility and swift dives.
Following the introduction of the initial model, a refined Type VIIB quickly emerged, boasting superior maneuverability. The most prolific variant was the Type VIIC, with its sub-variant VIIC/41 constructed from thicker steel to reach even greater depths. Additional variants included the minelaying Type VIID and the torpedo-replenishing Type VIIF. Today, a lone survivor, U-995, stands as a reminder of this once-dominant fleet, preserved for all to see in Laboe, Germany.
Part of Heller's Kriegsmarine set, a Type VIIC U-Boat in 1/400. Not much to say about the kit, simply build OOB, just added some antennas and a few U-Boot-Männer.
